UTC is launching a series of short talks on food, nutrition and health
The University of Technology of Compiègne (UTC), a member of the Sorbonne University Alliance, is launching an innovative initiative open to all: a series of “flash” talks focusing on food, nutrition and their impact on health.
This new, deliberately short (15-minute) format takes place in a lecture theatre and aims to provide practical, scientific and educational answers to the questions everyone might ask themselves on a daily basis about their diet.
An initiative promoting global health
Drawing on the in-house expertise of its academic staff, UTC aims to strengthen the promotion of global health and help improve the quality of life on its campus. This initiative is fully aligned with the priorities set by the Alliance Sorbonne Université’s Institute of Global Health, which is developing, in particular, a key focus area on “Nutrition & Health.”
The Institute welcomes and supports this initiative, which demonstrates the Alliance’s commitment to issues of prevention, health education and the dissemination of scientific knowledge to a wider public.
A participatory format
These talks are aimed at the entire UTC academic community: students, academic staff and other staff.
Their unique feature lies in their participatory nature: everyone is invited to submit their questions in advance via a dedicated box. The topics for future lectures will be directly shaped by these contributions, so as to address real concerns as closely as possible.
Questions can be submitted here.
First talk: Understanding the glycaemic index
The first talk took place on 20 March 2026 at 1.30 pm (Amphi FA104 BF) and focused on a key topic in nutrition: “It’s not the sugar, it’s the speed! What is the glycaemic index? Why can the same food have different effects on hunger, energy levels and weight gain?”
Through this topic, participants gained a better understanding of how food influences blood sugar levels and why not all sugars have the same effects on the body.
