Student Mental Health: Scope, Realities, and Perspectives

Declared a “Great National Cause” in France in 2025, student mental health has become a major issue for stakeholders in higher education, guidance, and healthcare. Understanding its realities and better defining each actor’s role has become essential in the face of a rapidly growing demand for support. In this context, a conference entitled “Student Mental Health: Scope, Realities, and Perspectives” will take place on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Sorbonne.

Organized by Joanna Kaczynska and Anne Ulpat, psychologists with the French National Education system specializing in guidance counseling, this morning of discussions will bring together researchers, healthcare professionals, and higher education stakeholders to provide scientific insights and share field experiences related to mental health issues among young people.

  • Cécilia Bognon-Küss, Associate Professor in Philosophy and History of the Biological and Medical Sciences at Sorbonne University, Co-Director of the Global Health Institute;
  • Françoise Guillo-Benarous, Physician and Director of the Student Health Service (SSE) at Sorbonne University, Co-Director of the Global Health Institute;
  • Eva Lucchezi and a colleague, students and mental health ambassadors;
  • Maria Melchior, Epidemiologist, Research Director at Inserm, holder of the annual Public Health Chair at the Collège de France;
  • Yannick Morvan, Professor of Psychology at Paris Nanterre University, member of the Scientific Council of the Observatoire de la vie étudiante (OVE).
