Career

Basile Chaix is a research director at Inserm and affiliated with Sorbonne University. The Nemesis team he coordinates, created when the MobiliSense project funded by the European Research Council (ERC) was set up in 2015, examines how living environments influence health, explores the impact of transport on health, and studies the health effects of heat waves inside and outside urban heat islands. This work focuses on exposure, behavioural and health dynamics in space and time based on spatio-temporally referenced data. The various projects are based on monitoring participants using embedded sensors for location, behaviour, environmental exposures and health, and via the Eco-emo tracker smartphone application developed by the team. In addition, the Nemesis team is investigating the effects of heat exposure on health using data from the French National Health Data System.

Basile Chaix is scientific coordinator of Inserm's climate change and health initiative. He is a member of the editorial board of the North American journal Epidemiology.
