Bruno Riou

Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Sorbonne University

Career

Bruno Riou was elected Dean of the Faculty of Health on December 12, 2023. He had previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Sorbonne University since February 12, 2015. Prior to that, he was Vice-President for Medicine at UPMC from 2002 to 2015. A Professor of Anesthesia and Intensive Care, and later of Emergency Medicine at Sorbonne University, he served as Head of the Emergency Department at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital from 1999 to 2019 and is responsible for the Organ and Tissue Procurement Coordination Unit at Pitié-Salpêtrière. He also headed the PRAGUE unit (Anesthesia-Intensive Care-Emergencies-Pulmonology-Spirometry-Geriatrics-Sleep) at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital.

He was elected President of the Conference of Health Deans of Île-de-France in 2016, re-elected in 2019, and has since been Vice-President Dean of the AP-HP Board and a member of the AP-HP Supervisory Board.

Elected President of the National University Council (CNU) for Emergency Medicine since 2017, he was a member of the CNU for Anesthesia and Intensive Care from 2006 to 2012. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Annales Françaises de Médecine d’Urgence and was a Senior Editor of the journal Anesthesiology.

He is also a member of the French Society of Emergency Medicine (SFMU), a board member of Samu and Urgence de France, a member of the National Council for Hospital Emergency Services (CNUH) since its creation, and a member of Inserm UMRS 1166 at the ICAN University Hospital Institute.
