Career
Director of the Students Health Department of Sorbonne University, Françoise Guillo-Benarous brings to ASU-GHI her experience in France and abroad in hospital and university settings, developed in complementary fields, all related to health and social issues.
A geriatrician and hospital practitioner, she has headed several hospitalisation and consultation units in gerontology at the Montpellier-Nîmes University Hospital in France, then worked in clinical research in the field of neurodegenerative diseases and age-related cognitive decline as Assistant Research Professor at the Center for Cognitive Neurology, Langone Medical Centre, New York University in the United States.
It was in China, as a visiting professor of social sciences, that she had the opportunity to create an introductory course on global health and contemporary challenges in global health for New York University Shanghai in 2018. These courses covered topics such as chronic disease prevention, demographic and epidemiological transitions, emerging infectious diseases, climate issues and their impact on individual and collective health. This course led to the launch of a “Global Health Track” in 2021 for international undergraduate and Master's students.
Since 2023, Françoise Guillo-Benarous has been coordinating prevention, medical monitoring and psychological support initiatives for all students at Sorbonne University and its partner institutions at the Student Health Service.
As part of her duties at ASU-GHI, she contributes to the development and implementation of programmes related to global health objectives for the student community, incorporating prevention, mental health, nutrition and the promotion of physical activity.
