François-Xavier Guchet, a philosopher of science and technology, devotes his research to analysing the contemporary transformations brought about by scientific and technological innovations. A professor at the University of Technology of Compiègne (UTC), he heads the “Knowledge, Organisation and Technical Systems” (Costech) research unit.

His work builds on the tradition of French philosophy of technology, particularly the works of Gilbert Simondon, Hans Jonas and André Leroi-Gourhan, which he is helping to revitalise in the light of contemporary challenges. His research examines how technical objects, biotechnologies, digital technologies and artificial intelligence are transforming scientific practices, social organisations and representations of living beings.

Through his work, François-Xavier Guchet has developed an original approach that brings together philosophy, engineering and the life sciences. He is particularly interested in the ethical and epistemological issues raised by technosciences, which he analyses through case studies focusing notably on personalised medicine, biomarkers, nanotechnologies and healthcare technologies. This line of thinking informs a conception of innovation that is mindful of the human, social and environmental dimensions of technological developments.
