Career

Marie-Stéphanie Clerget-Froidevaux is Professor at the French National Museum of Natural History (MNHN) and Director of the Molecular Physiology and Adaptation Unit (PhyMA, UMR 7221 CNRS–MNHN). Trained as a neuroendocrinologist, she conducts research at the intersection of physiology, endocrinology, and environmental sciences. She also leads the “Brain-Body Crosstalks during Adaptive Processes” (BBC) team, which investigates the physiological mechanisms that enable organisms to adapt to environmental changes.

Throughout her career, she has specialized in the study of thyroid hormones and their role in regulating metabolism, brain development, and adaptive capacities in living organisms. Her work has contributed to a deeper understanding of the interactions between endocrine systems, brain functions, and environmental constraints, particularly in the context of physiological disturbances and exposure to environmental factors.

Her research is grounded in an integrative approach to biology, combining molecular physiology, neurobiology, and endocrinology to investigate the mechanisms underlying phenotypic plasticity and biological adaptation. She is particularly interested in the effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals on development and health, as well as in the physiological processes involved in aging and tissue homeostasis.

Alongside her research activities, Marie-Stéphanie Clerget-Froidevaux holds significant scientific and educational responsibilities at the MNHN. She co-coordinates several Master’s programs in the field of Environment and Health and contributes to the development of interdisciplinary research on the relationships between environment, biodiversity, and health. She is also a member of the “Cuvier” Animal Research Ethics Committee.
