Career

Victor Narat is a CNRS Research Fellow at the Eco-Anthropology Research Unit (UMR 7206). Trained as a veterinarian, he conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of ecology, anthropology, and health, following an integrated One Health approach.

His work focuses on interactions between humans and wildlife, particularly non-human primates, including the great apes of Central Africa. He investigates the dynamics of coexistence between human and animal populations in contexts of increasing anthropogenic pressure, combining ecological approaches, field observations, and analyses of socio-environmental systems.

His research specifically addresses primate behavioural ecology, transformations of forest habitats, and the impacts of human activities on biodiversity and health risks at the human–wildlife interface. He has conducted extensive fieldwork in Central Africa, particularly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he studies the conditions that shape coexistence between humans and great apes in rapidly changing environments.
