Vincent Maréchal

Career
Vincent Maréchal is Professor of Virology at Sorbonne University and a specialist in medical and fundamental virology. Trained as an engineer, he has developed a career as a teacher-researcher combining academic teaching – particularly through the leadership of master’s programs in virology – and research on oncogenic viruses and emerging infections. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of viral infections, including herpesviruses and, more recently, SARS-CoV-2.
He is the author of more than one hundred scientific publications and has held major academic leadership roles, notably serving as Director of the Department of Life Sciences of Sorbonne University from 2015 to 2020.
A co-founder of the OBEPINE research consortium at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, he currently leads the national OBEPINE+ platform, which develops wastewater-based epidemiology for the monitoring and early detection of infectious diseases.
His work is part of an integrated global health approach aligned with the “One Health” concept, aiming to better understand the interactions between human, animal, and environmental health in order to strengthen epidemic prevention strategies.
