Today, epidemiology faces new challenges shaped by contemporary globalization—from pandemic management to the analysis of massive amounts of data by international consortia working on cohorts of hundreds of thousands of individuals.

Following the success of its first study day in January 2018, the Committee for the History of Inserm, chaired since 2017 by Professor Pascal Griset (Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Sorbonne University), organized a second study day on 23 January 2019 in Paris, as part of its ongoing commitment to developing new research themes under the banner “For a History of Health and Medical Research.”

Bringing together historians, scientists, and institutional and socio-economic stakeholders involved in issues related to epidemiology, this second study day of the Committee for the History of Inserm sought to shed light on the history of the discipline in relation to its present and future challenges.
